Students Learning West-African Rhythms

Mr. Huisken's Seventh graders are learning about West African traditions, including unique musical time signatures. This is to help students gain appreciation for the variety of music and oral traditions one can find across cultures, reminding us that there are many ways of knowing, understanding, and beautifying our world.  These rockstars are learning a classic song from Mali called “Jarabi,” originally designed for the kora instrument.

These budding musicians are naturals!
