This cold weather isn't helping the bears to decide to come out of hibernation. So, I asked TK - 2 for some help to see which grade level could read the most bear books to read them out of hibernation. TK won the competition, reading over 220 books!

Congratulations to the 18 students in 7th and 8th grade who received Superior or Honorable Mention awards on their performances at the MCTM Math Contest that we attended in March! A Superior rating means the student scored in the top 15% of their grade level on that test. An Honorable Mention rating means the student scored in the top 16-35% of their grade level on that test. Great work Lumberjacks!

2nd graders in Mr. Hamilton's class just finished reading "How to catch a Leprechaun" by Adam Wallace. In honor of St. Patrick's Day, the students have been working hard on building their own traps and writing creative stories to go along with them. Great way to spend part of the day leading up to spring break. Lots of fun for all!

In social studies we have been studying how mining was a big part of what brought people to Montana. We started with an exploration to see where people came from all around the world to mine for copper in Butte. We also learned about the environmental impacts that the mining has had on Butte. Then we did some mining of our own to extract some precious minerals from a cookie. They were then challenged to try and reclaim their mining site to repair their cookie to look like it did before the mining occurred. They came to the conclusion that it was nearly impossible to repair cookie, but it sure was tasty!

It was an incredible honor to host Malia Kipp at Bonner School today. Ms. Kipp played for the Lady Griz in the 1990s as the first Indigenous woman from Montana to play Division I basketball on a full-ride scholarship. At that time, she was only one of three in the country. A valuable role model, Ms. Kipp is the subject a documentary called Native Ball, featured this week at the Big Sky Film Festival. Our 8th graders watched the film and met with Ms. Kipp during a Q&A session. The experiences and insights of Ms. Kipp were absolutely inspiring and we are grateful for her generosity!
